    Monday nights I attend a local live auction, while at the same time I’m following a local online only auction. The online auction has preview days, so I go in and physically inspect the items I’m interested in.

    pictured below are the items I won (along with junk) at the online sale, that I picked up after work this evening

    I believe the mesh sterling purse is French. I found the marks, but having a difficult time making sense of them, and French silver marks confuse me. Weight is 80g

    I can see how this slipped past other people, as the marks are so tiny and there was a good bit of junk in the recesses

    the other items in the photo are sterling as well…..with one exception. And how THIS ONE was missed, I have no clue. I sure didn’t miss it!!!

    1877 1/4 Eagle coin (22k) turned into a brooch with monogram (4.1g)

    I wish I could meet the jeweler who sloppily used silver solder to attach the pin :banghead:

    In total……. $21.58 after tax

    :woot::woot:

    Thoughts on the silver marks?

    thanks in advance!

    Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

    If you look carefully, doesn't it sort of look like there's a casing around the edges???? WHO would ruin a GOLD coin like that!!!:jawdrop::jimlad::punch::rage:

    Depending what type of solder is on it,a little nitric acid may clean it up.

    they were called “love tokens”, and rather popular back in the day, for those who had an extra $2.50 (+jeweler’s fees) to spend on their lovely lady.

    Yes, it is a boar mark, but it is not the French boar.
    It is the Portuguese boar, 1913-1938, with II for second fineness, which is .833. It looks like the cartouche is the one for Gondomar, in the north of Portugal.
