Hi. I'm hoping someone has some info on these two Chinese embroidered panels. The fronts look old to me and have some sort of narrative reference: in one a women seems to be presenting a baby and in the other the older man is giving an object of some sort. Are they antique and what may have been their purpose?

The weird thing is they seem sewn to contemporary cardboard. Huh? Were they removed from something else and then mounted to keep them flat? Is the red thread on the edges not original?

They are each about 22 inches across.

    Thank you in advance!

I am a collector and big fan of Chinese silk embroidery, and I am always on the hunt for pieces. I am not an expert by any means, though. I am still learning.
After the revolution, the formal robes of the wealthy and ruling class were cut up and sold. Often these pieces found themselves outside of China. I am not sure whether these are antiques, or reproductions created for the tourist market.

Can I 'bump' this thread, and tag people with Asian art knowledge? @Any Jewelry @Ce BCA @Mat or anyone else?

    Thank you!
