Featured Cinnabar plate signed --- melted?

    I've never seen a piece a cinnabar item with this kind of damage, it appears to be melted? Can anyone tell me the signature? Thanks! cin.jpg cin1.jpg cin2.jpg cin3.jpg cin4.jpg cin5.jpg

    I think it's plastic. You could try the red hot needle test on the bottom where it's already disfigured to see if it smells like burning plastic.

    Cinnabar is a build up of lacquer. If exposed to heat it will melt.

    I think you have an older piece that was badly mistreated.

    I'd wash it in mild soapy water. Not hot water.

    Glad you came along clutteredcloset!
    In my mind, cinnabar would scorch or burn, but not melt. Learn somethin' new everyday.

    Cinnabar can melt with heat, that’s for sure
