    Yeah, he seems to have got a lock on the revival of these putti engaged in bacchic activities or general mischief.

    The second one is also known as La Nuit. Think whereabouts of the original are unknown. It's from the same series as the other & both represent times of day:

    Clodion was given a commission to make work for a monument to Copernicus (I think, otherwise Galileo) which got taken away from him & given to Bertel Thorvaldsen. A rigmarole got going that these two reliefs were made by Clodion for the commission, hence the Allegorie de l'Astronomie title. As I recall, L'Allegorie du Jour sold for something like 34,000 euros, completely unrecognized as a copy, not original work. Things like this do not strengthen my faith in Sotheby's & other major houses.
