    hi folks

found this pretty little ring in an oxfam cabinet, tag stated 18ct gold plated for £11.99

i thought too well made and pretty to be a plated ring, but unsure because of the mark

found this one online with the same kind of mark that only sold for £50

    https://www.lofty.com/products/an-a...-18ct-and-pl-three-diamond-set-ring-i-1-6b66w

so that makes me wonder if it is plated, as surely would be worth more if solid 18ct

    any thought appreciated

The mark in the link is 18ct and PT.The ring you posted has had a 3/4 shank replacement and has been sized. The mark could have been from scrap out of the goldsmith's bench and not original to the ring.

@Hollyblue, what does the 'PT' stand for, if I may ask??

In the USA PT usually stands for platinum, but the OP's ring is marked ct. for carat/karat which is usually a UK mark. The PT could be a maker's mark.

PT was also used for Platinum in the UK, the ring head is early 20th century (Deco), the marks match the period so the shank was replaced with a period example. Snap it up, worth plenty more in scrap gold than the offer price. Difficult to retail due to all the alterations, but would still fetch over £100.

Yup, that's an 18ct shank with a platinum setting. I'd grab that. And get a diamond tester on it.

    Luckily it's already been grabbed

Will take it to the local jewellers, to see about the stones

    Quite small though

It's Edwardian in style rather than Deco. Probably diamond chips.

Standard for stones that small and that old. I'd bet on 18k and Platinum too.
