Due to the width and relatively shallow depth, I put it with (some of) the cookie jars, but it may have been manufactured as a canister!

Could be that it IS a cookie jar.....I never even gave that a thought!!

Charles - not so much hijacked as petered out and wandered off..............I think those who know anything posted their information/opinions on the first few posts and no one had anything else relevant to add.

My point was in reference to the post mentioning that possible collector value would be to someone "decorating" a garage..............I posted that I know of someone who uses material such as this for other decorative purposes and the thread wandered from there.

I'm reasonably certain that if any one had additional information they would have posted it.............the "wandering" posts kept this thread at the top (known as a bump) for a while so it certainly should not have been overlooked. In the interest of getting your thread to the top of the list and looked at, ANY posts are good posts.

Well, it does serve a purpose! As I mentioned, getting a slumbering thread back to the front page may attract the attention of someone who missed it the first time around.:):)

Late to the party, but I really enjoyed seeing your photos on here and on the "more about me" link. Just for grins, my fave object among these photos is the chrome breadbox. Too cool! I also like your story about how you moved into the Chicago storefront. I come to Chicago on business at least once a month and find it fascinating. Without revealing too much, what's your neighborhood?

And....of course you're not alone in the OCD brother-and-sisterhood. I don't have to check the gas burner on the stove 10 times before I leave the house, but I do like to have everything in its optimal place....and to keep it that way!

I'm near Ukrainian Village - actually the east end of it, called East Village. Just south of Bucktown/Wicker Park. Not long ago someone else asked about the chrome bread box (and an aluminum cake cover) and for the life of me I can't remember where they came from. I seem to have had them for decades..............

Thanks for the compliments - hardly deserved, but nice to receive!!!!!!!!

Ah, love the Louis Sullivan church there. Great neighborhoods! I used to come up for concerts at The Empty Bottle back in the 90s.

I followed your photo story with interest. Your efforts to make the place livable must have been Herculean, and have paid off handsomely. Any kudos are deserved.

Alas, the hipsters have decided that the Empty Bottle needed updating, so like most renovations, this will remove the charm and history of the Bottle and leave a crew of old drunks to reminisce about the "olden days"..............

This area has been Dry for 20 years now, meaning that no new venues can sell alcohol. We are a tiny splat of prohibition in a sea of martinis. This has lead to some weird restaurant opening, but even worse, as the dive bars on Division close down/go out of business because the owners are dying off, nothing opens to take its place but nail salons and wireless phone shops............and we are losing a lot of local flavour to new condo construction and the resultant residents. Who all seem to be from Down State farms areas, and who are buying places with the admitted intention of flipping them when "they" get pregnant so they can afford a place in the Land Of American Dreams...........commonly known as the suburb of Schaumburg..................

But yeah, the LS church is still there, and we still have SOME amazing turn of the century architecture in pockets. The Polish Triangle is coming back, and Ukrainian Museum of Modern Art has enjoyed a surge of popularity recently, so that's something.

All told, I love this neighborhood - the bulwark of Division Street between "us" and Bucktown/Wicker Park (which is where all of the Lincoln Park Trust Fund Babies moved after being priced out) helps us retain at least the rep as a working class enclave, full of artisans and poets..................................

    lloyd249 it's not hoarding if it's valuable

IMO right now it is only salable to a person that likes "rusty " , if i had it and wanted to sell it for "decor " i would buff it down to a shine, clear coat it ( or paint it funky colors, my fav is red ,yellow ,green ) mount it to a board , or frame it (securely lol looks heavy ) and mount it on the wall , could sell as much as a 100 bucks . and priceless as a conversation piece .

It used to be "my kinda town" until (as mentioned) fashionable Lincoln Park became too expensive for the chi-chi wannabes and they moved west.............

True story - riding the bus one morning, through Bucktown. Eavesdropping on two Lincoln Park Princesses (about 21 yo).

LPP A says "Hey, ya know, this part of town doesn't look that bad".

LPP B says "You don't wanna meet the guys that live here. Most of them still work for a job for a living like my dad".................

Now that sort has moved to Bucktown, lock, stock and trust fund..................
