Help with identifying this Chinese piece please

    I wondered if anyone could help identify this piece of furniture.
    It belonged to my Chinese grandmother and I have now inherited it. I never thought to ask what it was exactly or where it came from and am now intrigued.

    In the simplest sense, it is a storage/display cabinet. I do not know if it has a specific name in Chinese. I suspect you are missing a base. Like this one....

    I think Brad is right aboue a base.I wonder if it got flooded,wich would explain the missing finish on the bottom. Its a lovely piece,very ornamental.For no discernible reason I think this might be a Victorian era piece. I think the ones made for domestic use arent as ornate.So maybe 1870-1900?
