Help with signature pls..

I don't know who the right guy is, but I do not think you're done looking.

 

Agree. 'Ben Shahn' was a good first guess, but too many significant differences in signatures to be the same hand.

Doubt this helps, but...

 

Hmmm.. tough one.. I think it could be as sig looks very similar and also artist’s subject matter includes Judaism.. I think the men depicted look Jewish?

 

I do not see similarities. Look at the construction of the "B" alone...

 

Also of questionable value, but maybe someone will see something.

 

I think the first name may be "Bernard" (abbreviated). The second name may be Irvin.

 

There's a Bernard Irvin listed as an artist in the Australian voter roles from 1967, but I haven't found anything else.

 

Found further info on this guy and I don't think he's yours. Info is, he was a "display artist" -- which is more a "window/commercial display" thing than a drawing/painting thing.

 

There's a degree of similarity of subject matter. Shahn's style was not highly realistic, & some drawings are closer to cartoons, but the one in question is closer to caricature, which is not like Shahn.

Yes I think you guys are right that it’s almost certainly not him. I bought it anyway for £30 ($40) this morning as I like it..
