Featured Interesting History Basket Making UK

I have found some interesting history on basket making (family related) in the UK.

I came across all of this today in one of my Grandmother's boxes.
It seems my Grandmother's Aunt Mabel born in 1878 was quite skilled in basket work. She made baskets for the Queen Mother, the Queen and Princess Margaret. She travelled extensively lecturing and also wrote a book about basket making and co authored another. She died aged 94.
I have included images of only a few of the bits I have found.

No sadly but I have managed to find copies of her two books online. A project for the new year will be to try and recreate one of her baskets

I'll add a snippet. This was thought of as a very suitable employment for blind people. I had an elderly friend - she died in 1981 - who had been trained to weave baskets by the RNIB.
