Is this a bedwarmer?

Head is brass or copper. It has an "in memory of" inscription on it.

Sorry, only snapped a quick pic of it. Handle was wood, had a slight curve on one side. There was a bird etched in the metal. They had 2 of them, in memory of 2 different people.

 

Here's the name and bird.

 

Fan given out at a "viewing" or funeral.

Never heard of such a thing. Would be interested in seeing another example.

It's a first for me as well! That's why I felt compelled to bring it before the "Council"

 

Haven't seen one in metal, in cardboard is more likely. It was a "southern thing."

 

I also wondered if it was an old-school italian tradition, but I'm italian and have never seen it done in my family.

hummm, I can't really say if it looks like either or....

I'd have trouble using that in my kitchen......or waving it around at a funeral...
