Is this a cup, a bowl? Cloisonne decoration or something else?

    Hi,

I picked this up today because of it's beautiful pattern and colours. It is small, 3.25"x 2.25" H. Is it a cup or bowl? It has a matte rough edge around the top on the inside. Would the design be described as cloisonne or something else? No markings. Thank you!

Very nice design and colors! Only cloisonne if the material is enamel surrounded by metal. I'm not sure what else to call it.

But I would call it a bowl.

    I'd suspect Japanese.

It is beautiful, Elen. I agree with Bakers, it isn't cloisonné enamel, but it is a bowl.;)
It has a transitional Art Nouveau-Art Deco look. That is no estimate of its age though, just the look.

It is thanks! I agree with you on the style. So nicely done unfortunate that it isn't marked. Any idea why the inside of the rim would be matte/almost rough? Maybe it's not unusual but I've never seen it before.

Is it ceramic or glass? I can not tell! I wrote a long dissertation on champleve', then realized it's not metal!

Porcelain by the look of it. Decorated to emulate cloisonne.

That is a lot of hand-work!

I agree! Such intricate work and no maker's mark to attribute it to :sorry: Perhaps it was part of a set and some of the other pieces were marked.
