Featured Is this a Neiger brooch?

Hi everyone,

I have had this Czech brooch for a while, and more recently I have been re-looking at it and I wondered how I could tell if it was by Neiger?

I see this name a lot online/ books and while there are some brooches that seem to be clearly by Neiger and are quite impressive, I have seen some online, which while not exactly like this, do bear some similarities and these have also been described as Neiger. So is this Neiger or not? Also no idea what the black marks are on the metal on the back, it was like this when I bought it!

The back is late 19th, so I'd have said a bit early for Neiger. And Czech, no, that nation didn't exist till after WW1.

 

Wonder if someone before you bought it hit it with a black marker??

Austro-hungarian costume, but from the same geographic area. The black stuff....when you're 120 year old, something is bound to happen sooner or later.

 

Thanks everyone, I hadn't realised it was as old as that! Is it the intricacy of the back which helps attribute the age to it?

No wonder it's a bit strange on the back after all this time, it definitely looks like it could be black marker!

 

Not the intricacy, but the long tube hinge and that C clasp. And the long pin.
