Knight Elkin & co Foley Earthenware pot

I’ve been trying to research this pot. Not sure of the correct name for it, it’s like a huge coffee mug at 15cm across, not including the handle and 10cm tall.
I can find very little online about it, just a small amount from potteries.org which dates it to mid 1800 s I think?
I’ve found only a very few of examples online of a similar pattern but with a white/ cream background not this brown colour.
Any information would be very welcome as to if this is an unusual find or if it’s so mundane that it’s not found it’s way onto the internet! Pattern name or accurate dating would be very interesting.

It looks like the same pattern as the plate they show: http://www.thepotteries.org/allpotters/638d.htm They were in business such a short time, I'm not sure you will find anything else. BTW, you have Elgin in your title.

I thought at first your cup had lived a hard life and was stained all over, but I saw the lighter ones on worthpoint have a different number on the bottom, so I guess the pattern is No. 46.

I agree, very badly stained. Those soft bodies do tend to that.

 

OTOH it would be a good piece to mess with - as in experimenting with a hydrogen peroxide soak. Poor thing needs a bath; it looks like someone sent it swimming in espresso.

 

I’d be happy to give it a go with instructions if it has no value as it is although I hope it doesn’t end its 190 year survival in my amateur hands!.

Can't say I had much luck, but......I THINK I might see a serpent's head, near what looks like a female's head profile right.....but weirdly, it looks like she's wearing a mask....I kid you NOT!!!! PLEASE tell me I'm not the only one who sees this!!!!!!! Also wondering if this mug might have been buried in the earth for a while????

@Aquitaine , did you see the lozenge-shaped mark on the white example? Maybe you can make something of it?

 

Somewhere along the line I saw a readable impressed mark though can't find the example right now. This one is the best I see at the moment on a 47 piece. I believe it says Iron Stone China with Warranted in the band. Not sure if it says something in the upper band or not.

I did find where the description of an impressed marks they say "Iron Stone China Warranted" however they don't show it.

@Figtree3, yes, I've been playing with it, but can come up with nothing readable, but two letters!! Pretty faint.....looks like SiS has it pretty well nailed down though!
