Featured Kyugetsu Japanese Doll needs some help

I think maybe the same age by looking at the base (no mark or sticker), but what a difference in expression

Awwww, poor baby needs a bit of rehab!
That's the problem with these dolls, they degrade with age.
There's not too much you can do sometimes, other than gentle cleaning of the face and hands.
Maybe a dab of white paint on the nose....

 

Just out of interest stracci, what's the square thing on a pole in her hand ?

Looks like the bottom part of something and the top was formerly attached to the nails?

I think she is lovely, too.

 

Just to add a little more to this thread,
I purchased this girl from a Japanese lady. She was having a yard sale a while back.
She told me this was purchased new in Japan in 1972. She is supposed to be a dancer? and she has brown hair.

Yes, she's a folk dancer. Charming!
Is her hair brown all the way through or just on the outer layer? If just on the outer layer, it has probably faded from age and light.

 

I think it's all of it, but will look again.
