Can anyone help me identify these birds please, not sure if they are made from bone or ivory as have just inherited them from relative.

Any help or advice greatly appreciated Thanks Gavin.

I think they are some sort of cow horn. As Hollyblue said.

Indeed, horn. They are an import item, not just sure from where; possibly India. I've found a nearly identical one online, sold by an India import/export company, but can't post the link without inflicting an advertising popup on you all. It is at http://hampashire.tradeindia.com/vintage-carved-horn-bird-sculpture-3348179.html if you want to try it.
(PS, in Indonesia, I've heard that the animal that would be called a water buffalo in the US is called a cow locally).

    For comparison:

I'm a bit skeptical about the origin mentioned in the last link: "US 1970."
When we know that identical items are being currently made and imported from India, I think there is a pretty strong presumption that older items came from there also.
And I don't think that even in 1970 home craftspeople in the US were imitating the production of the cottage industry in India.
    But that's just an opinion.

    Welcome to the forum, Gavin.

    Defintely India.
Cows and water buffalo have different uses and a different spiritual significance, the spiritual part is also important in Indonesian culture.
In Indonesian a (water) buffalo is called kerbau, a cow is called sapi.

    Hi,
I am getting a Haiti vibe. Someone brought me back a fake flower arrangement with three huge carved horn decorations that looked like crows to me.

I appreciate the precision. Shows that those who speak colloquially are often less precise than real experts would be.
