I found this today at a friend's thrift store. He sold it to me pretty inexpensive because he told me it was going to be hard to find the bottles for it. I thought it was a great box even without the insert tray. The bottom has Made in France, but it looks like stencil (last pic of bottom of box, lower right corner; sorry close up of it didn't open on computer) - is this old or new? I know it's a portable bar; is there another name (maybe a french name) for a container you can carry with you & have a bar wherever you like? (Seems a cowboy poker player would have/want something like this to relax customers?) Any information would be appreciated - thank you!
It says Tantalus liquor cabinet in title and in description? Should I just call it a French liquor cabinet? Akso, I didn't see Boule, but when I searched Boule liquor cabinet I got this Boulle Cabinets - 7 For Sale at 1stDibs | boulle furniture for sale, boulle furniture, boule cabinet What do I have? Can I say antique?
It's no longer on eBay (checked under Sold too) - and even dumbing down the search title to: antique vintage wood wine bar case Not a one came up for sale or had sold - maybe link above was seller's guess? When I put this I got some similar: antique vintage wood tantalus liquor cabinet
I would guess that this could be considered Deco - 1930s - but that's my opinion. The decoration is parquetry. Boule is a different, and specific, type of decoration.
I don't know if this helps but I found this. http://ancientpoint.com/inf/66888-fine_french_tantalus_1870__s_intricate_inlaid_parquetry.html
I wouldn't be at all surprised if that was post-World War II. With its "Made in France" stencil, I certainly would be cautious about referring to it as "antique." Debora

Good find journey. I agree with those who say (or think) ca 1870 and parquetry. Tried to tweak the photo, not succesfully, but are you sure it says Made in France?
