Hello Everyone, I have a Silver Bookmark with the Coat of Arms of Oxford University College. I have done some researches and believe it's from 1912 made in Chester, England by JW Benson LTD. Any input would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you! I just cleaned it up actually and it does look much nicer. Just wanted to make sure I had the correct cleaning method as to not ruin it or it's patina. Will post some new ones soon!
The 1912 assay mark on this site looks a little different from what's on the piece, but I have not seen a better match. http://www.silvermakersmarks.co.uk/Dates/Chester/Date Letters M.html
The maker's mark, however is more likely that of John William Barrett (the line above the Benson mark you mentioned.) http://www.silvermakersmarks.co.uk/Makers/Chester-JT-JZ.html#JW
Thanks for your reply! Yes I matched that M as well with that Chester table. As for John William Barrett, I 've also found that name is a few places but it's kind of divided. I have seen several marks like mine identified as JW Benson so it's a bit confusing .
