It has been my perception for a while now, based on auction results, asked & achieved, that cameos & intaglios are in a period of renewed interest, although prices have been all over the place.

Cindy Sherman cameos are news to me. Put up this link for Katherine Wallach's site before. Definitely not your grandmother's cameos. She designs only; some young anonymous Italian does the cutting:

Yes. Some very pretty and clean-cut well cared for old ones for $50 and seen some plastic monsters that look to have been rolled over by a train for hundreds. Wildly, both sides sell or don’t sell for reasons I don’t understand.

I used to be pretty good at predicting whether an eBay cameo would sell & for how much. Not any more. If I understood better, my predictive powers would also be better. The high price of gold has introduced one distortion, so that mediocre carvings & artificial cameos can get good money just for the gold, if nothing else. Cameos set in silver might as well not be set at all for the difference it makes most of the time. There is definitely more awareness of signatures on cameos & the potentially higher value of these. The truly exceptional pieces that come along once in a blue moon still achieve top dollar. Occasionally see something that started at .99 exceed 1,000 USD when the dust settles.

I've seen these before. That one makes me grin too; I love how they got the fishnets in there.

    Perhaps you would prefer Amedeo?

People seem to buy on HSN, then off load on eBay. If they pay the kind of prices being asked at the shop, they take a considerable loss. From what I have seen, Tagliamonte jewellery is also not a good investment, although prettier & more conventional than these cameos.

I must be getting old as I think that a lot of them are tasteless.

Wholesale cost is probably 1/4 - 1/3 of the internet site. So if they can buy wholesale and double, they haven't taken a loss. They are undercutting the website.
Surprised there isn't a VERO on it. Does ebay even still do that?

Amedeo's stuff was/is being sold at Neiman Marcus. Don't know how much opportunity an eBay seller would have to acquire it wholesale, &, unlike Tagliamonte, sellers don't usually seem to have multiple pieces of his work. But I know much more about cameos than about the world of wholesale-retail.
