Hello Board Friends - I am trying to see if I am on the right track in researching this piece. The underplate measures 8 1/2" across and the boat about 8" across and 6" tall. It is thick walled and the handles appear to be applied. I am guessing Staffordshire mid 19th century. Am I close? Google images shows me similar images but without much helpful information. Thanks in advance for whatever help you can provide.
    Don

    Trying to educate myself here...
Doesn't a sauce boat have a single handle and a pouring spout? (AKA a gravy boat?)
I would have called this a tureen (missing the matching ladle), but WDIK.
It does remind me of Burgess & Leigh's Asiatic Pheasants pattern... without the pheasants.

Sauce tureen for bread sauce or similar OR it's for sugar, which came in big lumps. Early 19th or after.

Most welcome. Those rather faded transfers tend to be earlier, I think.
