First ques from the silver offered for sale. Ques #1.

Same maker for both. There are 6 of these spoons, 12 forks. Can anyone ID the maker? Sort of a Lion in an "F"?? Also is the initial an "M"? ""W"? (Does the first pic show the initial right side up or upside down?)

The monogram could be either - W or M. Does either have any meaning to the owner?

US monograms should be read in the orientation you have shown (business end up.) Monograms on the reverse side are normally European and may be read with the end of the handle at the top instead (although we should check that with our friends across the pond.)

Great info everyone. Thank you. Have a few more to post.

The above pattern looks like Towle #43.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

In MHO, Re: Ques #1, it's an M and it's showing it upside down! All kinds of extra lines and scrolling can be added, depending on the Calligrapher......this one's right side up and fairly plain......

It's a Blackletter (Gothic script) 'W' - here's the spoon pic turned correctly, and an alphabet example:

Can still remember, maybe 30 years ago, spending a couple of hours digging through a friend's bin of loose silver, finally finding a set of six lovely spoons engraved with a fancy Blackletter 'W' for my last name - and then looking up at him and saying, "It's a damned 'M', isn't it?", he smiled sadly and nodded 'yes'...

Funny story. Darn those "M" spoons! :)

Can't resist...W for your last name?
    "W" for Dragonfly Wink? ;)

Hehe, that definitely works since 'Wink' is part of my last name!
