Dated 1966, and I think the 1st name is Shelly??, and perhaps the letter "i" in the last name.
    Artist proof, The Paper Crown

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

You have too much influence on me, Brad. Now I see the two letters as identical, although I thought I had studied them and decided they weren't!!!!

I would guess it's a lithograph since a sketch would not be marked Artists Proof. The first name looks like Holly, or Hally, to me.

Thanks again, so nice to have an ID. You all are the best.:)
Question, would this be considered an artist proof sketch?, or drawing, or lithograph?...

Has to be some kind of print. Since the original appears to be a drawing, it has to be some kind of photo-mechanical print.

Hi Brad, I don't understand, can you help explain what you mean? So, its not a real sketch?

I can't find any others on the net, other than an oil painting of paper crown on worthpoint.

I don't see why this has to be photo-mechanical. It might be, and that would be the easiest thing, but wet stone lithographs can look very much like drawings.

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

In have never understood why somebody would save an incomplete/unfinished work. Who wants that thing circulating, representing your best? At least this one is labeled as a proof. I've never been much of a print-maker, but we did practice it in school a bit. I trashed every proof I did...

If it were a real sketch it would not be an artist's proof. My understanding of an artist's proof is that it is the first example(s) of a good print presented to the artist for his/her approval before a print run is made. There are usually more than one artist's proofs. later prints in the edition run are, then, numbered.

Wouldn't a wet stone lithograph have a plate impression? I don't really know so am asking.

I now see that this is dated 1966 so this pre-dates most of the commercial photo-copy processes. There were photo-mechanical lithographs being done at this time. It does not appear to be made from other hand processes such as etching, silkscreen, or block print. I don't know enough about other print processes to know other possible methods for making this.
