    Nice carving. Southeast Asian maybe?
    Given the subject it is bound to be a tropical wood. Not teak though.

    If you are asking because you want to sell it, I'd say it isn't important. If you are asking out of interest for yourself, let's wait for the others.

    I should take better photos closer in, it has very fine grain I don't recognise, a but like bamboo but can't be

    I'd expect it to be monkey pod. To your eye, does that look right?

    Or stain? The way the lines seem to correspond with the musculature of the animal is unbelievable!
