Featured Stick pin with horse head. Bone? Ivory?

Found this cool pin with a horses head carved on the end.
It is 5" long. I am not sure but it could be Ivory?

It's really neat but it doesn't look like a horse to me. Can't wrap my head around it when the 3rd picture looks more like a boar's head. Hmmmm.

JMHO, the black spots and the slightly horizontal dark steaks make me think bone.

 

Dyed/stained bone I would think mikey, with all those dark flecks, you wouldn't see them in ivory

 

Maybe a wolf ?

A hairpin! Way too thick for what is called a stick pin (to pin on a tie!)

Might just be a little awl, useful in any number of crafts. I would buy it for use in basketry.
