There is a nice 1840s dag on ebay I have been looking at in rough shape but i believe I can buy it and make it nice again. The case is gilded gold and beautiful on the outside but on the inside it's a different story. I believe the inside portion is infested with a decent amount of mold. I am paranoid about this kind of thing and thought it couldn't hurt to ask you guys. I would hate to pass it up!
Didnt include a picture since the photographer had trouble getting a a decent photo. I could tell it was alright with original seals. The main and only concern is the case mold....
There are many ways to get rid of mold....... look em up to see which would be the best for the old material you have to deal with. I don't want to suggest the wrong method.....
Can you tell if the white part on the right side is paper or cloth? Usually I've seen them lined with paper, but it's hard to tell in that photo. I'm not sure how to treat mold when the lining is still adhering to the inside, or whether it would be any different from treating the lining material by itself.
To me, that doesn't look like paper......I think only cloth would be that 'soft' looking, but then maybe Fig knows of different paper than I do!!
