Hi, Today I found these two items that I didn't know what it was. When I got home I immediately googled and found out that this is referred to as cassolettes. They are very heavy and weigh 3265 gr. and have a height of 26 cm. and the top has a diameter of 17.5 cm. Who can tell me from what period these are and if they have any value. Gr. Jeanny
They look French to me and from clock cases etc of similar design and material I would say these are late 19thc.
They are beautiful, Jeanny. I agree, French, maybe Belgian. The French generally call this style Napoleon III, which is 1848(1852)-1870. Mind you, they call many things Napoleon III, even when they aren't. Probably some ormolu decoration, maybe a classicist mask in a roundel.
Here is a pair that is similar in appearance. https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/french-antique-pair-marble-cassolette-1939027948
Hello everyone Thank's to you all. I cleaned them and they are even more beautiful now. Unfortunately they do not fit on our mantelpiece. Then I have to find another place
Like Debora, I am curious too, as to what is missing. Here are some very ornate ones. https://www.worthpoint.com/inventory/search?query=MARBLE+CASSOLETTE&category=
