    Hello,

I recently inherited a very old orthopedic back brace/corset:

Anyone know how old can it be?
    And is it worth anything?

I can't contribute except to say that looks painful.
    No offense meant.

    Hi,
With some of the pieces being replaced with new leather. I believe it is older than then the 40s more like the 20s. On one of the "buckles" there seems to be a design number instead of a patent number. It would help date the brace.

That looks like an earlier version of a back brace that I had to wear when I broke my back in 1969.
Not as painful as it looks when considering that movement of the broken part is more painful.
Mine did not have any leather on it.

Also, mine did not have movable parts. So I'm wondering if this was worn by someone who needed crutches to walk and to keep the upper body straight.

As mentioned older medical devices are collected.

Some steampunker can give a medical collector a run up in the bidding!
    Best of luck with this.

This could be a score. Could it have been for someone with polio? They had all sorts of adaptive braces.

Yeah the number is 50484 but quick google search didn't gave me anything about it.

On the bottom part there is also a staple, that looks like it was manufacturer signature:

It has a distinctive shape but unfortunately is worn out.

Possibly. Person that had it (not sure if she used it) was 97 years old.
The brace would fit a slim woman. It might also be used for scoliosis.

So any advice where I should go with it? Some antique auction house or should I just put it on ebay or something?

looks like the one I used to wear ,the design is early to mid 40's and construction was mid to late 50's price when new was in the range of 75 to 125 usd and as a collectible might fetch $150 to$ 225 depending upon condition
