I purchased this in a Dallas antique shop and I’m trying to find out more about it. It’s about 18” tall, all one piece from a 2 piece mold. Hollow, looks to be plaster with grass/straw mixed in. Quite heavy. I’m thinking zoo, carnival, circus? No markings at all. Love the guy, just wish I knew more about him. Any ideas? Thanks!

Could it have been a decoration on a merry-go-round?

I posted pics from the back and the side. We thought maybe a carousel dec too, but the way its hollow in the back makes me wonder how they would have attached it without it flying off. Plus all the carousel decs seem much fancier somehow.

In the 1990s I bought a plaque for my child, he wanted it, it was rosin, I can't remember what animal it was, but they had a few different animals. I didn't see this one. Yours looks slightly larger, perhaps a little bit older incarnation. Faux fur was popular by this time period too.

This one older than mine. Looks like 1950s-1960s plastic. Thanks INH for showing the photos larger. Much easier.

It looks like chalkware from here.

I think it's a decorative shield from the rounding board on a carousel.

Hmm, when I look at the examples in the links I see scroll work and extra embellishments that make mine look kinda crude in terms of the mounting. Isn't chalkware pretty fragile? This guy hardly has a chip. Any thoughts on age? It's definitely grass or straw mixed in with the chalkware/plaster, there were little bits exposed in the back.

Looks very similar to OP's in a art-materials sort of way. Without having Cathy's in hand, not sure what it is made of? Cathy? What is it made of?
