    Hi there,

Sorry for your loss, I also came across a piece quite recently and wondered if you could shed some light on this as I did find it quite intriguing and wasn't sure if perhaps it was someone making or trying to make a replica, But then I thought why would anyone go through such trouble hallmarking a piece with a recent silver marking and then I figured perhaps it was more for personal use.

Oh right, perhaps others could take a look. It would of course helped if I did add an image, which seem not likely due to the image size being to large.

I know it's difficult to see but the coin is stamped MO,925 and then the Malta silver marking with the letter F and the coin/pendant holder is also marked with the same hallmarks, this is why I assumed it was more of a personal item as appose to a common thing. The coin is self does look very good but of course the weight is not consistent with the Ferdinand von Hompesch (1797-1798) coin which is about 29-28 grams this coin is about 19 grams so the weight is off, which is not a problem as I do intent the keep it. However one did wonder if it could of been made by the above Edward Madiona.

Many thanks in advance for any replys.

    It's a medallion.

If it was a real coin, it would weigh 29.54 grams with a diameter of 34mm
30 Tari struck in Malta whilst under French occupation.
It was not struck with a mint mark of MO 925
Coins with the mint mark MO are usually Spanish colonial coinage struck in Mexico city

Hi, thank you for your reply I assumed it was a medallion of sort, but what caught my attention whilst trying to narrow down the hallmarks I came across a post from another member with the same markings on a different item and a family member commented to say it was her late father who had acutely made the piece so I was wondering if she/he could verify that indeed her father made the piece.

    Thank you once again.
