Featured Anyone know perfume Shalimar, Picasso, Opium? (Not jewelry but where should I put this?)

Sorry to list this in jewelry, but no other category seemed to have any connection. Sometimes I smell perfume on costume jewelry, so picked this spot.

Just got these Friday. Estate sale listed on Facebook offered "early appointments", so I emailed and they let me in. Turns out they'd already been selling contents of the house for months so not much was left. I got a few Japanese vases, and then spotted this box of perfumes. I know nothing about perfume except that SOME vintage can have good resale. They wanted $20 for all the perfume in the box (photo below), which seemed like I should take a chance. But now wondering if I can actually make a profit or I should have passed on these.

Very likely most of these bottles sat on a bureau for decades. Does perfume ever go bad? I was hoping just to do a quick in person turnaround of the entire lot --started with $100 for everything on Facebook, quickly switched to $60 but so far no takers. The thought of shipping this doesn't thrill me because of new Hazmat rules with USPS. I also want this OUT of my house as quickly as possible because both DH and I are perfume adverse. Cannot tolerate any scents period, even French perfumes. I mean as long as liquid is in the bottle there is no issue, but god forbid I dropped one. We'd have to sell the house!

Looking on Ebay, I see the Paloma Picasso (seemingly the same exact bottle and same quantity selling for $10-100.) Why the difference?

Should I break these up and try for smaller sales? Any ideas, jewelry folks?

I think most joolies wear perfume, or know a little about these brands, so not such a bad choice of forum.
I used to love Opium btw, but never bought a bottle. I only used it when there were bottles in the bathrooms of restaurants.;) Normally I used Armani, because that is the only perfume that stayed good on my skin. That was until scents started to bother me.

I will also tag Peggy for you, @bercrystal .:)

Yes, depending on age and how it was stored, scents can go bad. Some scents, especially if they're discontinued, can have resale value. What's important to know is the concentration and whether it's the original scent or a more recent reformulated version.

Take a look at the bottles and tell us which are Eau de Parfum, Eau de Toilette, etc. Makes a big difference.

The Shalimar looks like an Eau de Toilette due to the unfooted bottle. Should have a sticker on the bottom you can check to verify. Here's a completed listing from eBay. Item #187523779151 sold at $39.95 for an almost full bottle.

    Thank you Debora and AJ.

Debora, you are correct about the Shalimar. It is Eau de Toilette. The Paloma Picasso says perfume on the base sticker, the Opium doesn't specify on the bottom sticker, but thinking that might be perfume.

I think I'm going to lower the price again. Or maybe split up by brands and try for $20 a group. I really want these out of my house, lol.

My mom used to wear Shalimar and she put on too much.
A friend of mine on ebay sold perfume and did nicely. But she stopped selling.
As far as it going bad, many sellers just put in the listing, this is vintage and may not have the same scent as it originally had do to age. And if shipped I think it has to go usps ground advantage.

Shalimar was my favorite, but I don't wear perfume any more. ebay won't let you sell perfume as perfume unless it's NIB. If it's open, you're selling a collectible bottle.

I'm not planning to sell on Ebay, however either they've changed policy or no one on Ebay is policing this. I did do some research on all of these are there a ton listed with wording like "half full", etc. There are many vintage open bottles of perfume on Ebay currently bragging about how much is still in there with photos to match.

Might be the way to go.

I have sold many bottles of "vintage" perfume / eau de toilette over the years & have never had a problem with eBay or USPS.

I list them in the health & beauty as well as the collectible / vanity categories.

When I pack a bottle with the liquid still present, I wrap it in a few layers of paper towel & then place it inside a Ziploc bag. The bag is then wrapped in packing paper & bubble wrap. The box is usually filled with packing peanuts for cushioning.

I have never had any problems with breakage or had any listings pulled.

    I would sell them separately.
