Picked this up for $5 at the thrift store. Have seen one small piece as a child but didn’t give it much thought beyond “prettyyyy ” until now. Decent size piece, 18” x 7”. Three toed dragon, so guessing Japanese, copper, some damage. Can’t find any marks. See pics. Please help!!

Welcome, barre.amandaj. We really prefer to have photos full size, attached to the post. It just makes it easier, which means you have a better chance of getting a useful reply.

The camera icon in the menu above is supposed to let you embed items from your media into the post. Not sure if you'll still run into the file size limitation problem. There are tips for handling photos in the General Discussion forum.

I read through the resizing tips post and when I sent the photos to myself through email it didn’t even ask me if I wanted to resize them before sending, which I’ve never had it not ask me, and couldn’t figure out how else to do it on my iPhone. I tried!! lol but thank you very much for attaching that full view photo, much appreciated

I can tell you that the people who know anything about this type of work will probably want to see the bottom & maybe also what the inside is like.

It is possible to copy & paste photos from one post into another, if you would like to add commentary.

I'd have grabbed it, too...turn the damage to the wall!
    That's a nice piece!

It was once an expertly made Japanese export piece, but it has been through the wars, which greatly affects its value. If you like the style it has great decorative impact though.
There is still the warped top. But that could be seen as a charming testimony to its history.;)

I will definitely have to familiarize myself with the site, I’ve never been much of a poster but this forum is awesome, as are the people on it.

Thank you, I think so as well!! It’s nice to know the value but I think I would hang on to it either way, it’s so gorgeous.

I heard I can have it repaired?

Exactly!!! My cat lost his eye last year, I think he’s all the more handsome for it :) and how fun to imagine the journey it took to find its way into my hands. I love a good treasure hunt.

Suspect that would cost an arm & a leg, but we have a member who does awesome things with nail polish & aluminum foil. Maybe @kyratango will have some suggestions. Take a look:

Some Kyratisations... Aka my cosmetic repairs!
