Featured Age of vintage/antique sterling silver hair combs?

These combs are not marked but test as sterling. Measure 2" wide and 1 3/4" high. The tips of the prongs are very sharp. Would these go directly into hair or thru lace?

Is it possible to date them based on the design or construction? Thanks!

 

they'd go thru large buns with no chance of touching the scalp....imo

 

I don't think I've ever seen combs quite that tiny.

They remind me of those spy movies where the woman reaches into her hair and pulls out a lethal weapon.

 

My guess is 1920s, but that is just a guess.

Those are worn on either side in the bun, or on either side of the head.

Thanks to all for your suggestions! I think the bun idea is great, just dunno why the prongs had to be so pointy!

If you attend one of those parties where they let helium balloons go into the sky and fall to earth later as non-biodegradable compost, just poke 'em all first and throw them away! Wow! Where did that idea come from?

 

That was my first thought. I used to wear them too, but always turned the other way and the comb pushed through the hair in a way it would stop the comb from sliding out.
