I very rarely find a piece, but I love the history.[IMG]

I like the thought that many years ago, it was precious enough to repair, or the owner was so poor, it had to be mended. I find the very old jug on the left, at the back, fascinating as I cannot figure out the age of it.

@popsycat - could we please see some individual photos of the jugs & repairs that have been made? The photo you have provided just doesn't show any of those details to me.

Everyone has a new metal handle. Is there any one in paricular you want to see as I have to get someone else to take photos.

That explanation will do popsycat - no need for further photos, too much work for you.

I think you are lucky to have a nice set of 3!

Thank you.The one at the back on the left has metal strapwork going down the body as well. I love the old old mug. Too precious to throw out.

These are lovely, @popsycat !! I don't know where to look for such jugs?

Are you in Europe, or where? ;)

Nah, never throw anything out!:rolleyes:

I like the jug with the moulded vines in the middle. I would rescue it, too!

France. I like the fact that they were never thrown out.

If it were like the UK here, itinerant workers would travel around fixing things. The one at the back, on the right has brass fittings.

I was smitten with the 3 brown jugs & didn't even notice the other 2. Someone cared a lot to go to the trouble of making new handles.

Yep, Europeans have us Americans (such a throw-away society we are) beat on reusing lovely old items! Both of my parents were raised during the Great Depression & they knew the value of fixing everything - luckily some of it rubbed off on me. :D

I knew that there would be boardies here who would appreciate them. Not once have I had a visitor to the house who has admired them or be captivated by their history. I have them in the hall, so they are always on display. Most people have that look on their face when they are trying to figure out why I collect such items.

I am also enthralled when I find a piece of pottery or porcelain that has been repaired with staples.

I don't know if you're familiar with this site, Past Imperfect, but there are many many lovely old repaired items.

I have a few with old repairs that I just love too!
