I love that this is apparently a father, vs the usual mother, with a baby. It's about 9" high. Any guess about where it's from or if it has any special significance. Thanks! IMG_6855.JPG IMG_6856.JPG IMG_6858.JPG IMG_6857.JPG

I can't place him with certainty. He reminds me of unglazed folk art figurines made in Santa Maria Atzompa, Oaxaca, Mexico. But the style is so simple he could be from almost anywhere.

His hair and beard look like the fork crimping on a turnover.

And I’m feeling more Aegean-ish but no clue. I like it! Could be Mexican I guess but something is off to me for Mexico and I don’t personally read him as student work.

Thanks @reader. I've been researching Aegean art and see several of the features that my figure has that are similar - conical lower body, upward angle of head, straight, sharp nose, simple fingers, small ears and grey clay. Can't find the beard or hair though. Much appreciate you sending me there. Probably never know for sure but the search is fun.

Searching for information on something else, I came across a reference to these figures made by Ethiopian Jews (Falasha) in Ethiopia and Israel.

Wow those do look similar! And I'm so impressed that you remembered mine from long ago. Do you have the links handy to those 2 - I'll search myself with that new location. Thanks!
