Stumbled across this pottery vase on Ebay (seller in Florida says they got it from their husband's Aunt) - and bought it - yes, purely an impulse buy - but the reason being is I recognized it - well, more to the point, I recognized the form. At the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond, VA (which I visit several times a year), there is a rather large display of Tiffany and other art nouveau glass. This large peacock lamp being one of the featured pieces:

After stumbling across this vase on Ebay - I did a bit of googling and found 3 or 4 other examples of the vase (all previous sales either from worthpoint, Ebay, or rubylane) None of the listings/ pages that I found seemed to be able to attribute the vase to a particular maker, although a couple of them indicated that they thought it was Italian. Wherever/whenever it came from, it is clearly modeled after the Tiffany lamp. According to the museum, the lamp was made between 1898-1900, so I'm assuming the vase would have to be after that (some of the other listings of copies of this vase said late 1800's which I'm assuming is wrong).

The vase is on the large side 16 inches high, although nowhere near the 40 inches high of the lamp. It is unmarked except for perhaps a decorator's mark on the unglazed base.

Here are the pics of the vase:

Any idea where this is from?

It’s very nice, vibrant colors. I’m seeing the same as you, pure speculation.
Even the Online “Expert” Appraisers are stumped. :hilarious:

looks nice next to your Finnish vase, (I knew you would keep that) :)

Nope, other than my assumption that its newer than the Tiffany lamp... Ebay seller didn't have any info other than it came from husband's aunt's estate.

With that base I'm thinking the orient (China) ...but you never know, it might be from somewhere in the west too ..

It’s lovely. And now I have fallen down a rabbit hole of looking at antique peacock vases, lol.

I hope you find an answer!

Appears to just be random small marks from however it was made. Not letters :(

The glaze is super fragile on these, I saw the same as yours in a thrift shop with the glaze pealing off like an eggshell.

Thanks Brad! Guess I won't be selling mine on Ruby Lane for $550 like that 1 seller did...

Old or new, it is rather stunning and looks good next to your other vase.
Good color blend as well as shape fit.

I saw this on eBay and right away thought if you! Unfortunately it was just a photo for the category of “multi colored pottery” so no other info is included. But I thought it was interesting because it looks like your “vase” held glass at one time.

Just found this vase in the collection of an antique dealer on IG, looking rather nice I must say. It’s a nice find wherever it came from!
