My friend found 2 cool rifles in a storage unit he won at a auction. he buys them for furniture for his 2nd hand furniture store & sells me stuff he can't use cheap.
So when he showed me these & asked me if I wanted them for $100 I immediately said yes! I knew the military rifle was worth a lot more (I told him if I get over 400 I'll split it with him - turns out it's a french military MAS 49/56!) but the muzzle loader has me stumped! The octagon barrel seems real but has some kind of liner in it? And the little storage thing on the side of the stock (3rd photo) doesn't open.
Is it a real muzzle loader or a really good copy?
    Thank you for any help!

The lock looks like pot metal and I think the patch box is a solid sheet of brass, not sure what's going on with the barrel.

The first one looks too clean & shiny, so suspect it was used in battle reenactments.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

IMHO, First one looks like definitely a Repro; The second one the metal parts DO look old, but not so sure about the 'stock'???

The 49/56 is a desirable collectible rifle. 20 years ago they could be easily found but not anymore. That "ladder" thing that swings up is the grenade launcher sight. The larger round part on the muzzle is the grenade launcher.

The french rifle would need to be sold thru a ffl or c&r depending where you live or person to person again depending where you live. If in central fl email me:cigar::cigar::cigar:

For that matter it's even a question about whether Journey can sell a firearm in his own state, isn't it?. Does he need a license?

isn't this a antique or collectible?
I already found out eBay & craigslist are out - I was thinking of trying gunbroker (dot) com but how would I get it there?
    sheesh it's never easy.
PS - I'm in S. Fla. coreya but I need to find out if I can sell it before I sell it - in case your profile pic is really you!

In the state of fl you can sell person to person with no problem, I would check the serial # via the states database and then have at it. Delivery is always a problem but you can ship via fed ex in state to an individual. And yes thats me in another life back when there was a small amount of sanity.

isn't this a antique or collectible?
    no...it's weapon of war !!!

the shorter and lighter variant, the MAS-49/56, was mass manufactured (275,240 units) and issued to all branches of the French military. Overall, the MAS-49 and 49/56 rifles gained the reputation of being accurate, reliable and easy to maintain in adverse environments.
    Made from 1949 ..... what's antique about it ?

If there are any guns shows near you just carry it in following any requirements. Take it in a gun case or similar to begin with and the guys at the desk will put tie wraps through the mechanisms. Put a sign on it with a good price and it will sell in five minutes just walking around. I sold mine about 5 years ago for triple what I paid for it in the early 2000s.
