Hello. This is my first time here and happy to have found this forum.

Need help with describing, dating, origin and worth if possible. It measures 18" x 18". Thank you.

    Hello and welcome.
    Lovely piece.

@Northern Lights Lodge @bluumz might be able to help. There is someone else who is good with fabrics, but can't think who it is at the moment.

    Hi @acvintage and @clutteredcloset49
What a stunning and showy piece!

Wish I could help on that one. It isn't in my repertoire. However, 18" x 18" strikes me as being a pillow top size. The design seems Asian. What is the fiber content? and what does it look like on the back?

    Cheerio,

PS... Yes, it is chain stitched... I'm unable to determine in these pics if they are hand done or machine... I may not be able to tell anyway - as hand and machine are pretty similar. In my opinion; although by definition it may be classified as crewel - because it is all over and only chain stitch; I "personally" wouldn't classify it as crewel.

I was going to suggest looking at prayer rugs but the size isn’t right. I do have one stitched similarly.

Thank you. It really is quite beautiful in person. I believe it's wool.

I'm providing a photo of back. You can see a tiny bit of canvas showing at bottom. It is of a courser and larger weave material than regular needlepoint canvas.

Curious as to ethnicity and era. Let me know if better closeup needed.

I've checked out some "Uzbek" and I do see similarities in design so I'm going to keep researching in that direction. Thanks to all and do let me know if any other suggestions.

Just leaving an update after more research...

The items I found that were closest to mine with the all over chain stitch and floral patterns are Kashmiri. Still looking but that's what I've found so far.

Beautiful piece, I love the colors, it would fit right in in my own living room. ;)

Sorry but "ethnic" pieces are not my forte so I've no further info to add.

I had wanted to post a photo but didn’t have time that day. Home today and here are photos. Given how much trade happened I’m certain this wasn’t unique to Arab culture :- ) Just sharing in case it’s helpful. This is a modern example, made a few years ago. 94A19515-9C01-4C98-84EE-B656D6500525.jpeg B84055A8-7FA6-42B9-8F43-891E98453C83.jpeg

You might try sending your photos to this gallery to see if they would offer an opinion. They specialize in "tribal textiles and embroidery from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Central Asia and the Himalayas":

Hello, @acvintage , and welcome! Some of us would love to know what you learn about this from the gallery or others you may ask. Would you please update this discussion thread if you learn anything?

Hi there - what you have is a pillow case cover from Kashmir, definitely hand done and looks to have been executed within the first half of the 20th C.

    tks.

    Thanks so much, Modest Muse.

I've been researching so many items that I still have not contacted the Galerie mentioned above. I took a quick look and decided I should take some time and research the things on their site first.

Thank you for the link. Still need to go through the items on the site to see if that helps, before contacting them.

I just emailed them, @2manybooks. If I don't add more after this post it will mean I was not able to get additional info from GalerieAriana. They certainly have some beautiful items.

Thank you, @Modest Muse. Looks like I'll be sticking with this info as it goes along with what I found once I was pointed in the right direction.

Thanks to all who helped me out with this. It is very much appreciated.
