I believe that messiness in the 3rd photo is the repair OP referenced, probably glue you're seeing. I don't think it came from the factory like that. Also - I'm not sure about William Tell being a transfer- really hard to tell from these photos.

I wanted to make this comparison for myself. Since I did the work, figured I might as well share it. It led me to no firm conclusion:

    Green glass gilt.jpg

I think the reason I thought the whole piece was porcelain was that I was focusing on identifying the William Tell artwork & did not look closely at all parts. Other than the one with the lattice design, the panels do look very much like painted porcelain, particularly in the way the painting does not go all the way out to the edge in places. I know nothing of the techniques that would have been employed for making this; would those sections, as OP mentions, have been made elsewhere & been applied separately? This is more for my own education.

This is a previous discussion as to your last point. I don’t know if a final conclusion was made.

Thanks for your input. The third photo as someone else mentioned is the repair. Also these two pieces are confirmed crystal not glass. I don't know if that makes a difference. I've had a few other agree with Moser and Harrach

I'm not going to get into who made it. The piece was first blown in green glass then cased over in opal, or white glass. once it was cooled to the point of being worked, a highly skilled worker/artisan, removed a lot of the white, leaving behind the round areas which were then decorated. Thus the appearance of having been applied.

I'm afraid that to be crystal and not glass, it would have to be made from natural quartz, the source of the word Crystal.
