Dating Chairs from the Hotel Fauchère in Milford, PA

Found these on the curb and am trying to date them/figure out what the stamp on the bottom of them is from.

 

Hum... Oscar Spliethoff. Born 1895, died 1986. German immigrant and weaver at silk factory in 1940. Pennsylvania's Department of Labor and Industry established 1913. And, if I'm reading this thread correctly, the stamp wasn't required until 1937. That's not the date of your chairs, of course, just the earliest date for renovation.

The hotel was upgrading its facilities about that time -- installing central heating and removing the outhouse -- so timing makes sense.

I would suggest contacting the owner. He may serve as historian and even have a photo archive that could include your chairs in historical interior shots.

Any idea of what style they'd be considered?

 

I wonder if the stamp was put on there when they were reupholstered then since they have the name of the establishment that owned them on it.

 

That would be a logical assumption.

They're late Victorian. Someone more knowledgable that I about furniture can provide more information.

Very late Victorian; aesthetic movement elements shading into early Edwardian, ca. 1900-1910.
