I won this work at a Roman auction house, and the auctioneer described it with the following words:
"Frate con calice, dipinto su porcellana, 15x19 cm, entro cornice."
that means :
"Friar with chalice, painted on porcelain, 15x19 cm, within frame."

Still in business but with the GDR we know it’s 1949 or later. It’s ceramic not porcelain and a blank painted elsewhere, not at the factory.

Cop. and copy they both have 4 characters, so I cannot understand the meaning, I can understand cop. as abbreviation of a longer word, for example copyright, or similar Or maybe it could also be an abbreviation of a dutch word... I already told you my point of view, cop.=copy or copia.
I’ve seen it abbreviated in many languages, it doesn’t really matter, does it? It’s a copy of a 19th century painting on a 20th century tile, nothing more, nothing less.

 

everything educated comes from latin. copiare or copiat (he/she copied) like the often seen fec. for fecit (he/she made it).
