Identifying Royal Navy ships crest/motto - help needed please

Would anyone be able to help me identify which RN ship this crest/motto belongs to?

There is just a fragment with the embossed crest/motto and appears to have been torn from a card. I thought the three letters "ham" on the left might give me a clue but having tried all the ships I could find ending with those letters I have drawn a blank (HMS Birmingham, Nottingham etc).

The motto is "Fortis in Arduis" & the flag shows that the ship was under overall command of a vice-admiral, I think.

Having trawled the Internet I have been unable to come up with anything - I must have looked at just about every ship that ever sailed & have picked up a fair bit of Latin along the way!

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

 

Maybe you shouldn't be looking for the name of the ship. The arms might be those of the vice-admiral.

Thanks for your suggestions, but not Barham - she had a French motto - "Tout bien ou rien".

 

Wouldn't want to live by it.

I can only find a New Zealand ship with that motto, the Olphert:

Fortis in arduis is also the motto of the earl of Middleton, if that helps.
It seems to be a popular motto, it even appears in costume jewellery, with exactly the same lion holding the same cross.

 

Did find a plaque that associates a rear admiral with the H.M.S. Barham with Fortis in Arduis.
