    Yes!
It's a good tool to reveal paint and adhesives that don't "match"

Thanks, digger. It does not budge off of green under any other type of light. You have to interrogate it with the UV to surprise its secret. If it had turned out to be alexandrite, you guys would have to summon emergency services to come resuscitate me!

@Bronwen My walrus tusk carving from the same type of material by a Native American. Obtained during a trip to Alaska in 2013. Show me yours, please. Maybe its the same artist

    Thanks @Hollyblue
Hey, did you ever get a chance to see the play "Ramona" at the amphitheater out that way? I saw it as a kid, and it's pretty spectacular {and hot).

Stylistically very different. My girl is highly stylized (also a slippery critter to photograph, apologies for poor photos). She is one of two pieces I bought some years ago now from an eBay seller who had bought a box of NA pieces from a store going out of business, somewhere in the Northwest, and knew nothing at all about any of them.

She is very glossy, dense & heavy, delightful to the fingers and satisfying in the hand. One of my absolute favorites.

Thank you. She makes me smile every time I look at her. And she just sucks up the UV rays and keeps smiling herself.

Is the bear antler? Or something a lot heavier? Maybe some sort of fossil material?

Walrus tusk carving, it does look very similar per Holly blue
Yours looks like an exceptional quality - carving and ivory. [IMG]

Milky is right, but there should be an extra discolouration, which depends on the colour of the amber. Under UV they should have a slight discolouration ranging from pinkish to blueish. I have a very dark amber cabochon which turns a rather sickening colour.
A synthetic sapphire should also fluoresce. Maybe they replaced it with a ruby? Not all rubies fluoresce.

My keris hilts (and keris) are Javanese and Madurese, and some other Indonesian. Some have rubies in the mendak or selut (hilt ring or cup), and most of those rubies are Burmese. Rubies from different locations have different minerals in the mix, which react differently to UV light. Burmese rubies fluoresce bright red, like demon's eyes.:nailbiting:
The Burmese equivalent to a keris would be a dha, although I don't know if it has the same spiritual/mystical connection. I don't have any dha.
I can't show anything right now, I am on another computer after mine crashed.:arghh: There are some on the forum. Somewhere..... Most of my best ones are still 'incognito'.

I suspect S Wolf may have a keris or two up his sleeve himself. Or at least have seen some which are much more grand than mine. S lives in Java, Indonesia, core country of the wonderful keris.

@Silver Wolf , found a few threads with some of my keris (hilts), no Burmese rubies though.:sorry: Will diamonds do?:angelic: The diamonds (and other gemstones) are on the family keris.

    Thank you S Wolf.
Very few do, there are more bad owners than bad keris. Some keris are intrinsically neutral as to right or wrong, the owner's intention can influence those.
If you are sensitive to the energy of the keris, you can feel if one is right for you.
I always advise people who think they have a bad keris to wrap it in a clean white cloth. I used to treat keris like that, but I don't anymore.
