0412191634.jpg 0412191635.jpg 0412191635a.jpg 0412191642.jpg I have recently got some dolls. Six are from Spain and one I think is from India? (but not sure).

Blue dress with fan - Luisa Campana (ref 423)
both Male dancers - Antonio Aracens (ref 481)
The others have lost their tags.

I was looking for more on the one I think is Indian.

1960s. I always thought they were modeled on Jackie Kennedy who was much admired in Spain then.

About that Indian Doll you purchased recently, it is a wooden one, depicting the traditional dress of Himachal Pradesh. And it's around 1970 I guess.

You still see those dolls in Spain sometimes. I'd agree 1960s ish, tourist.

Oh wow, I have never seen that photo. I have always seen her in traditional "Jackie O" attire.

Seville Fair. 1966. What really impressed the Spaniards was this.

We were in Spain a couple of times in the 90s and those dolls were for sale in the shops. I bought one for my niece. She had a collection from all the countries we visited. The Spanish ones were really well done and better detailed than some that we got her. They were not modeled on an American woman, though. These are classic Flamenco styles.

Yes, they are still being sold in Spain and Spanish shops outside Spain. They also make them with Spanish regional costumes, of which I hade a few. They are always well-made.

I don't really see a resemblance with Jackie K or any other famous non-Spanish woman. Jackie K had a square face with her eyes wider apart than is usual in a Western woman's face, these dolls have an oval face with average eye distance. They also have olive skin, which Jackie didn't have.
The only faint resemblance could possibly be the very big smile (grin?), which used to creep me out in these dolls.:nailbiting: But I can't believe they put that smile/grin on the dolls' faces as a reference to Jackie.
