Porcelain Posy Basket Vase - Is this Italian? FRATELLI FANCIULLACCI???

Hi All,

Trying to id this mini Porcelain Posy Basket Vase. Only mark is incised number #7215 on the bottom. Its hand painted scene is textured. Am wondering if it might be Italian Fratelli Fanciullacci or someone else's.

Wouldn't a European 7 have a line across it? That "gold" top edge looks very sloppy and with a blank back, I wonder if this was not a commercial decorating job.

 

The painted design looks vaguely Italian-ish, however AFAIK hardly any pottery workshops or factories in Italy (couple of exceptions but they don't make wares like this) use porcelain. Almost all Italian ceramics are pottery.

 

I think it is early 1900s German/Austrian

 

I have a similar basket with more details and decorations. Similar number on the base. I was never able to find an ID. I found a vase with this type of texture in the clay, I think it was Erphila. However, I never found a basket in this shape made by them, or, anyone else.

 

Erphila wasn't a manufacturer, but an importer.

Thank you for that information. So even if it was an Erphila mark, (so long ago I'm not sure), it really wouldn't answer the question of who made it.

Thank you for those links. I think that Royal Rudolstadt mark looks much older than these two baskets.

The second link does have a similar look. It's too bad they didn't show the mark.

 

Here's one with somewhat similar styled numbers. Maybe our basket posy vases were too small to put the inkstamp mark on. What do you think?

You definitely can't make an ID based on a similar numbering style! I agree with whoever up top said the painting looks amateurish.

 

The numbers on the right leg look like the same style on both of these baskets. My basket is only 6" long, 5" tall and 2" wide.

 

Look at the texture on these Royal Bayreuth Tapestry pieces. The marks don't match but the texture does.

There are several companies that people recognize by numbers, especially Japanese. The style of the numbers can help to determine if it's European. Sometimes, it's just a lead to point you in a direction to research.

I think the design was stenciled on and then hand painted. The dimpled texture would make it difficult to paint. Don't think an amateur would do it as well as this.
I still think German origin. Not high end, maybe souvenir? or prize from a fair.
I think pre WWI.

 

Why does ebay make it so difficult to share a link? I will try it again, one link at a time. The texture is more refined on these. I think this may be what they were attempting to copy.
