 NO. Noooooo... Oh my god the cringe I just felt. That's just not the way to ever treat a friend who's doing you a favor and teaching you! :jawdrop::inpain:

I have a close friend who turned me on to going to one of our local auction houses. So far, I have never gone with her and we've only gone independently. She really wants to do one together because she'd like to learn more about art/antiques with me. I do think it would be fun, and I want to, but I have been a little hesitant because if we both really liked something I know I would have to let her have it rather than live with the guilt of "fighting" over it. And my comfortable budget for "unnecessary" things is bigger than hers, so if she's outbid and I would have gone higher.... That's a discussion we would have in preview though, not sat next to each other while bidding!! :nailbiting:

Your "friend" is rude as hell for pulling that and I'm sure the audience thought so too.

Hmm... I did go through a trim of backed-up e bay sold photos on my computer this week and even just looking at 2021 I surprised myself with the things I let go that had been in my life a long time. Stuff I grew up with. The kinds of things that become fixtures so long you can't believe you don't have the physical thing with you still.

But it's not really a regret because I have the photos and the memories. They feel the same to me sold as they would have in a box somewhere that I never go into. The brain is funny like that. And this way, someone else is getting a chance to make memories with those items.

I am also pretty content to sit on listings until I get a price that feels right to me so I haven't sold anything for less than it should be worth...and quite a lot of things at much more. A decade ago I was reselling a lot of free stuff I got from various jobs and making sooo much money. Sometimes off of actual trash just because it had a nerd logo on a plastic spoon from SD Comic Con or whatever. Collectors are insane if you find the right current to the wave.

I think he realized how stupid of a thing to do it was milliseconds before I let loose a string of profanities at him. He quickly realized how seriously I take business and I’m sure wouldn’t think of doing it again. Nice fella, was more of a brain fart than a serious attempt to snipe me I like to think. Time has softened my reaction which at the time wasn’t as charitable. :)

I’m very patient too and willing to wait for the right price in most instances. I spent a good deal of time in the marketing world. Got oodles and oodles of free stuff from work, including a few PAX expos. Selling nerdy promotional stuff is incredibly lucrative. I could make over 1k after a PAX event selling free giveaways I picked up. 100% profit, good times.

I kinda wish I hadn't sold this pot by Kuno Jaschinski that anundverkaufen identified...

But I also think about this: I've been going to garage sales and the like for a long time. How many valuable, collectible things did I look right past because at the time I had no idea?

Now that I think of it, how many things do I look right past now because I still have no idea?

I guess I'll just have to buy everything.

It appears to be a different crate, or maybe just showing the other side. Dunno.

No regrets because I'm (was) a dabbler in buying and selling. Usually stuff that came up as I was looking at/for something else. Although I've had a couple of surprises when I was on ebay, the weird thing is that I did better helping people sell their stuff than selling my own, LOL! To add insult to injury, no one paid me for my help. One gal gave me a tea cup and saucer.

Don’t get me started. I get sick when I think about the art I let go.
