Featured TS? monogrammed shoe horn

Hi folks

found this in our local charity shop for 50p. bought it more as a curio keep more than anything as thinking it might be tortoise shell

smells like burnt hair on a heat test

i thought the gold mark was a company name when i found it but makes more sense as a monogram i think

wondering your opinions

any thoughts appreciated

 

I think it is horn.

Both tortoiseshell and horn smell of burnt hair.

 

The initials I see are DW.

thanks Aj, i didn't think about horn, which does look closer actually, tortoiseshell looks more defined and less swirly looking at pics

Just to throw this out there, I am thinking maybe it came with a grooming kit.
My father had a grooming kit when he went into the army. It had a brush and assorted other things in a leather bag. And your item looks to be the same look that the hair brush had.

 

Agree. A monogramed set. Wouldn't be terribly old because of the type face.

I believe it is turtleshell, the "swirls" you can see on 8th pic is the signature of the "soldering" of the scales pressed together to get a thicker plaque.

If you have some Simichrome, a firm rub with a dry tissue after application will give it the shine of a new one!
