My family collected it in the 1930s. Judging from the craftsmanship of its surface and channels, this is a work from the Xinglongwa Culture period, which is earlier than the Hongshan Culture. It is really exquisite.

And where is your family from? That is an interesting head! Is there more information that you can share? I don't know about those early cultures. Is it ceramic?

No, this is jade, slightly translucent, highly calcified from being buried for thousands of years. My grandfather was in the leather and licorice business in China's Liaoning Province and Inner Mongolia in the 1930s. The surrounding villagers could pick up these jade articles in the mountain streams. My grandfather could exchange them for these jade articles with very little money or even candy, because no one knew what these things represented at that time.

That was very interesting! And I didn't know that jade could calcify like that. I think it's a great piece! Thanks for posting!

Yes, jade has been buried for thousands of years, and elements in the soil will corrode jade. This phenomenon is very common, especially for jade from the Neolithic Age, but this does not mean that all jade will have this phenomenon. This is determined by the burial environment, which is very complicated.
