A rescue from my aunt's estate. I like the design, but after showing it to other people, the consensus was "overly gaudy". Just sharing.

have one of these and other Genoese pieces; and agree the design is a bit over the top reaching gaudy..........

 

Ornate styles were popular in the Victorian age. Nowadays people prefer plain designs.

 

It's all in how you style things. I think more detailed pieces look great in a minimalist space. Unfortunately home decor trends are decided like fashion: What can a person buy new that has been picked by buyers, and what the "shelter magazines" and influencers call good and can sell to you. Finding one's own style takes interest and effort a lot of people don't have.

 

Overly gaudy? I see a few surfaces which are not embellished! I LOVE IT! Could be used for a display of dried herb or flower stems. Such an unusual shape!

 

I have 2 similar shaped pieces. Years ago my husband claimed it for mail. My younger son asked for the other “mail keeper” if I ever find a 3rd, it will go to the other son for “mail”.
