    Hi,

I am new to the world of antiques.
I saw this item in a car boot sale, and I had to buy it.
I have no clue what is the provenance, but I like it.
    Its in good condition.
Anyone care to give me some ideas about it, what it might be worth?

    Thanks for that.
And it has 3 secret drawers underneath the inkwell section.

Yeah, this is a campaign slope.

So-called for its flat, unadorned sides and the recessed "campaign" carry-handles, in brass, on the sides.

The brass corner-covers are also there to provide protection from bumps and knocks.

It's missing a lot of stuff.

There's no lock, there's an inkwell missing, the pen-tray is missing...the writing surface has definitely been re-covered with a new skiver.

Originally, there would be a security pin to lock the side-drawer in place.

The lid of the box, which forms the lower half of the writing slope, looks like it can be propped open on notches, to form a reading rest or something like that. Would need to have more photos to confirm that, though.

If you use Google Images, a number of similars that are on offer will come up. Keep in mind there are a lot of variables in determining value, including location, age, and condition. Here are a couple just for comparison.

eBay typically provides a more realistic idea of value than high end retailers. I suggest you go to Completed listings and see what comes up when you enter keywords such as "Antique", "Campaign Slope", "Writing" and "Military." If you're not familiar with eBay, we can give you direction as to how to find Completed listings.

Welcome to Antiquers, NPG. If you might have more queries for us, it would be worth your time to view the link that Komokwa listed and learn to post photos to your thread. There is a wealth of information and help from the boardies here.

I should add that all new members have difficulty adding photographs to their first post.
