Hi, this ring was given to me by my late Egyptian grandfather in Cairo. I am trying to make out the markings, but I can't tell. I have no intentions of selling it or anything like that, I'd just like to know what they mean. It looks like: ٨, then a bird, then a hook or a sideways J of sorts

let me know your thoughts! Appreciate the help.

The bird is the ibis for gold, the fineness is 18k, and it was assayed in the city of Kennah, which I believe is now part of Cairo.

The pendant is more of a souvenir type, based on hieroglyphs.
It is also 18k gold, and it looks like it was assayed in 1982.

I am glad I could be of help. Both are good pieces with a nice gold fineness, but the ring is the star. And a beautiful memento of your grandfather.

Those pendants were quite popular in the 80s, I believe you could make them spell anything you wanted. I don't know what this one would mean.

Yes, you could have them made with hieroglyphs matching the sound of your name. The other ones are just decorative gibberish though.

@mcy94 I found this site where you can check if yours has your name in hieroglyphs:

OP is probably long gone, but for the benefit of anyone who lands here seeking info on Egyptian marks & designs...

The right hand mark on the ring is a date letter, which looks to be consistent with the date on the coin (if I'm making it out correctly), early 1940s:

The design on the pendant is one I have seen a great many times, so not likely to be a name. I suspect it is more like Good Luck or some such wish for the protection of the wearer.
