I know the MMA usually sells items that are modeled after works of art. So I thought I would ask if anyone might recognize these 2 little critters.

    He looks like Mr. Toad.
Did Mr. Toad have a lady friend? I can't find anything.

Bronwen, I immediately thought of and started singing "froggie went a'courtin' and he did ride, uh huh, uh huh, froggie went a'courtin' and he did ride . . . .

That was a favorite song in primary/elementary school. :D :shame:

If you mean Jeremy Fisher, he's Beatrix Potter. ;)

Thanks to everyone who helped me find these little froggies true identities!!:kiss::kiss:

I definitely agree. The little guy is all set to go a-wooin' & he has evidently found a coy lady frog who can flirt with him behind her fan.:happy::happy:

These came from the estate of the lady with the buying problem. When I unwrapped them from where they have probably been since she bought them I knew they were wonderful & that someone was going to love these ornaments. :D:D

I think it's probably 'A frog he would a-wooing go' too, but since he was courting a mouse (shudders at their progeny - oh wait, they died), believe the other is more likely his mother, who didn't want him to go. Found this 'Hey diddle diddle, the cat and the fiddle', but couldn't find any more than the Pinterest post - perhaps MMA did a Mother Goose/Nursery Rhyme series, maybe based on illustrations in their collection...

@DragonflyWink - I found a pinterest post that shows 4 characters from Alice in Wonderland, so you may be right about the nursery rhyme / children's book series.

You have a point about the other one being his mother. I did a Google search about the book & saw that he was trying to woo a mouse.

Well, all about an old book or song. I guess the book was very confusing. If the frog met Mrs. Mouse for a song why in the world would the frog woo her? She's married! He was a very confused frog. Too many versions. I would love to read the original book. Ha ha.

Eh, you'd have to go back centuries to find the original version, but it's always been a mouse he courted, and way back when, 'Mrs.' would have meant 'Mistress', and didn't necessarily convey marital status. Should also mention that most nursery rhymes had their origins in satire, and they changed with time - some were quite offensive and/or violent in their original form...
